How to Swing A Golf Club

If I have been asked one question a number of times, it’s how to swing a golf club. Now it is one of the first things to get to grips with when taking up golf and can be one of the hardest to master. The tips below will give you the basics of how to swing a golf club. Practice these tips as often as possible.

Start in a standing position with your feet about shoulder width apart. Make sure you bend from your hips not your waist and bend your knees a little.

Your arms should hang down freely, this can be judged by holding your club and when it makes contact with the ground change your standing position to ensure your arms are hanging freely. Check you alignment and make sure your shoulders and hips are parallel to the ball-to-target line.

From your correct position, start to swing the club back, your shoulders and hands rotate naturally with your club, working in harmony with your body. Your knee on your front leg should slightly bend in towards your back leg.

When you are at the top of your swing you should be looking down at your ball with your chin over your front shoulder and your chest pointing in the opposite direction of your target. The club should be behind your shoulders and completely parallel to the ground.

The downswing is where you unwind the power that has been built up when you were completing your backswing.

The club should come down freely straight onto the target and follow through the ball. It’s best to think you’re just swinging your club as a practice and not focusing on the ball, this will make sure you continue your follow-through.

When you complete the correct follow-though your chest should be facing the target, the weight is on your front foot and the club is now over your other shoulder.

These are the basics on how to swing your golf club and repeating regularly will become natural to you in no time.
